HEALTH TESTING
In Bernese Mountain Dogs, several key health tests are especially important. OFA evaluations for hips and elbows help identify and reduce the risk of orthopedic conditions that can impact mobility and quality of life. OFA cardiac testing screens for inherited heart disease, ensuring structural and functional heart health. Genetic testing for Degenerative Myelopathy helps identify dogs at risk for this progressive neurological condition, while testing for Von Willebrand’s Disease screens for an inherited bleeding disorder. Additionally, monitoring lines for histiosarcoma, the #1 cancer and cause of death in BMDs, is critical when making long-term breeding decisions.
